Defense Spending Bill Includes Many Provisions of Interest to States
On December 19, 2009, the president signed the fiscal year (FY) 2010 Department of Defense appropriations bill (H.R. 3326). The bill contains several non-defense related provisions, including short-term extensions for COBRA premium assistance and surface transportation programs, emergency funding for state administration of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and a delay in updating the poverty guidelines issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In addition, the bill contains a short-term extension of emergency unemployment compensation, which is detailed in Issue Brief 09-49.
