Navigating the Tracker

The Appropriations Tracker is an Excel workbook file with three tabs:

• The Full Table tab lists enacted appropriations in FYs 2022-2023, plus FY 2024 proposed funding in the president’s budget, and House and Senate appropriations bills for approximately 500 programs. It also includes program information, including whether a program is mandatory (and not affected by discretionary spending caps) or discretionary (and subject to the caps). Figures for programs approved at the subcommittee level in the House are based on legislative text. Several of these programs have a blank in the spreadsheet because legislative text frequently provides funding for the larger account, with specific program funding specified in the committee report, which is released only after a bill is considered by the full committee.
• The Amounts by Agency tab contains an interactive table, allowing the user to list and summarize appropriations by department/agency and office/account.
• The Abbreviations tab lists acronyms used in the workbook.
