FY 2023 Omnibus Modifies Public Health Preparedness and Response

The Prepare for and Respond to Existing Viruses, Emerging New Threats, and Pandemics Act (PREVENT Pandemics Act) was signed into law as part of Division FF of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023. The law makes several changes to strengthen federal and state preparedness, enhance state and local readiness, improve public health preparedness and response capacity, and revitalize the public health workforce. It reauthorizes a handful of programs and creates four new ones. This brief summarizes the law and highlights provisions of interest to states.
