Issue Brief 21-19
November 1, 2021
Summary

The House passed H.R. 2379 to authorize the State Opioid Response (SOR) program through fiscal year (FY) 2027. SOR has never received a statutory authorization, which has resulted in Congress including programmatic and funding provisions in annual appropriations bills. H.R. 2379 continues to allow the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to develop the program’s funding formula, with certain specified requirements. It also addresses the use of funds and reporting requirements.
