Issue Brief 20-28
November 20, 2020
Summary

Every five years, the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is required to review the part of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) that provides guidance on the awarding and management of federal grants. OMB published finalized revisions for this round on August 13. The revisions focused on increasing accountability for grant program results, implementing statutory changes, and clarifying points of confusion. Some changes suggested by states were incorporated, while others were not.

This brief provides a brief history of the revision process, summarizes revisions of particular relevance for states, and notes some suggestions from states that were not incorporated.
