The FFIS Grants Database includes allocations and estimates for federal formula grant programs (plus selected competitive programs) that go to state and local governments. State figures for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and Pell Grants are also included. Data go back to fiscal year (FY) 2006.

In general, funding amounts are based on enacted budgets for a given fiscal year. Funding amounts for PB 2024 reflect the president's FY 2024 proposed budget.

Updated June 26, 2023: FFIS has updated its grants database to reflect the FY 2023 enacted budget and the president's request for FY 2024.

Treatment of Supplemental Appropriations

Unless indicated otherwise, the database excludes supplemental appropriations to address COVID-19. It also excludes funding provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). FFIS tracks this funding separately. Click the links below for more information:

In some cases, funding includes amounts made available outside of the standard appropriations process. This includes some funding provided by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and other supplemental appropriations acts; footnotes indicate whether a program includes such funding.
