October 2009: DOJ Issues Guidance for ARRA Recipients The Department of Justice (DOJ) has developed various guidance documents and tools to assist ARRA recipients in meeting the section 1512 reporting requirements. September 2009: OVC Releases Guidance for Reporting Requirements The Office on Victims of Crime (OVC) has released specific guidance on estimating jobs for the Section 1512 recipient reporting requirements. September 10, 2009: ARRA Reporting Requirements Webinar On September 10, 2009, the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), and the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) will host a webinar on ARRA Section 1512 reporting requirements. The session will provide supplemental information to OMB's existing guidance on recipient reporting. One of the key areas the webinar will cover is how to calculate and report data on job creation and retention resulting from grant projects and activities. October 15, 2010: GAO Issues ARRA Report on Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program The Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently released an assessment on how ARRA JAG funds are awarded and how recipients in selected states and localities used the awards; recipient challenges in complying with reporting requirements; and JAG performance measures and information sharing.  GAO recommends that the Department of Justice revise its performance assessment systems to allow it to better determine whether ARRA JAG programs are meeting goals. July 23, 2010:  DOJ Announces $195,000 in JAG Awards The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced more than $195,000 in ARRA funding to 11 additional local governments under the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. July 14, 2010:  DOJ Announces more than $553,000 in JAG Awards DOJ announced more than $553,000 in ARRA funding to 22 additional local governments under the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.

June 18, 2010: Justice Announces ARRA Awards for Local Communities The Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs announced more than $300 million in ARRA funding to 16 local governments under the Justice Assistance Grant Program. To view the awards, go to:

September 21, 2009: DOJ Announces Funds for Tribal Communities DOJ announced $236 million in ARRA and FY 2009 public safety funding to criminal justice initiatives to tribal communities nationwide. More than $224 million will be administered by the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) through the Correctional Facilities on Tribal Lands Program. The program provides resources to allow eligible American Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages to construct or renovate correctional facilities on tribal lands, with consideration given to the detention bed space needs and the violent crime statistics of the applicant tribe or village. An additional $12 million has been awarded for 2009 Tribal Youth Program to support enhanced tribal efforts to prevent and control delinquency and improve the juvenile justice system for American Indian/Alaskan Native youth. A major focus of the program is providing youth with mental health services. June 2009: Deadline Extended for JAG Grants The deadline for local applications for ARRA Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) formula grant funds has been extended to 8:00 PM (EST) on June 17, 2009. Because this is a non-competitive formula grant program, the extension of this deadline does not affect either eligibility or funding determinations.
