Summary
Short-time compensation (STC) is partial unemployment compensation (UC) paid to employees whose hours of work have been reduced but who remain employed part-time. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act (P.L. 116-136) provides federal payment of STC and $100 million for state administration and promotion. The Department of Labor (DOL) invited applications for these formula grants on May 10, 2020, and will accept applications through December 31, 2023.
