Reconciliation Bill Provides Funds for States to Assist in Federal Immigration Enforcement

The reconciliation law (H.R. 1; P.L. 119-21) appropriated more than $45 billion for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to support immigration efforts. While most of the funding is for federal purposes, some goes to states, including for the 287(g) Program.

This brief summarizes these appropriations and provides an overview of the 287(g) Program and its current use in states. Additional details on other funding streams have not yet been released.
