The Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee has released its reconciliation text which contains similar proposals to those adopted in the House. The most notable include new state cost sharing requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and administration. Under the Senate proposals, states could see increased costs of up to $17.6 billion annually.
This Issue Brief summarizes the SNAP changes that would shift costs to states and provides state estimates of the two provisions affecting SNAP benefits and administrative costs.
