With the beginning of fiscal year (FY) 2026 just five months away, the administration has kicked off the annual budget process with today’s release of a “skinny” budget, which highlights top discretionary priorities. According to the release, overall defense discretionary spending would increase 13% and nondefense discretionary spending would be reduced by 23%. Several grant programs are recommended for elimination or consolidation.
