Summary 

Many states receive a share of revenues from the production and leasing of oil, gas, mineral, and renewable energy resources on federal lands. The Department of the Interior (DOI) announced $4.72 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2023 payments to states, a more than 8% increase from the prior year. Payments have increased by nearly 117% since FY 2021. As in FY 2022, New Mexico received the greatest share of total payments (62%), followed by Wyoming (18%). Eighteen states received no payment.
